Asthma & Exhaustion

Our world has been ruled by this the last 5 days....

at the doc on wednesday.

back at the doc on friday. =(

meds. not pictured: nebulizer

Meds. Lots & Lots of meds.  And trips to the doctor.

Colby is having an asthma flare up, only he isn't responding to any meds.  We're exhausted and i just want answers and relief for my baby.  We'll be on our way back to the doc tomorrow.  Praying they can find more out about what is causing it and we can get him some relief soon.  I'm slightly delirious ~ i've been on the couch with him for the last 4 nights and any sleep i do manage to get between breathing treatments & worrying, is with one eye and two ears open. We'd appreciate prayer for wisdom at the doc office tomorrow and peace for this mama's heart! =)

A few of my favorite MLK quotes.....
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."  ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
"I have decided to stick with love.  Hate is too great a burden to bear."
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
~Martin Luther King, Jr
What a man ~ so full of wisdom and love.  There are so many things i admire about him, but ultimately he was willing to chase after the dreams God placed in his heart no matter the cost.  I'm blessed to be able to teach my children about his legacy and to honor him today and every day!
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.
~1 Corinthians 13:13~

My Fitness Journey

Some of you were around back in 2009/10 when i began a journey to make big changes in my lifestyle and to live healthier and be more fit!  I was very successful and felt amazing!  Then in November of 2010 i found out i was pregnant w/ Dylan.  I had every intention of continuing my normal routine.  Then my doc told me what i knew would come, but i hoped it would be later in the pregnancy.  No exercise other than walking.  I was high risk and i knew that but i really hoped i could atleast run thru the 1st half.  Nope.

I didn't necessarily like it, but i had to make the best of it.  So i started walking as often as i could.  Things were great until about 24 weeks along and i was contracting so much with walking that my doc said no more.  In order to stay off of bedrest and stay pregnant i needed to stick to only what it took to take care of my home & kiddos ~ nothing more.  {sigh}  We had prayed and waited so long for that baby and there was no way i was going to complain.  I was going to do what i had to do to stay pregnant as long as possible! (apparently i did a good job of it, b/c it was my longest pregnancy of them all!!!)

last pic before lil man was born. =)
I just accepted that i had lost the weight once and i could do it again!  I knew it would be tough for several reasons.  My body doesn't handle the after baby hormones well at all.  I could eat only an apple a day and pack on weight.  Not fun but it is what it is.  And?  I knew adding a 3rd baby was going to be a little more work. What I didn't know, was just how much more work!  =)

All of this to say that i let that after baby weight stay far too long.  I didn't make fitness a priority for far too long.  But then a few months ago, October 15th to be exact, i made up my mind i was going to do what i knew i needed to do.  I was going to fight thru the pain, the hard, the tired....thru every excuse that tried to seem valid and i was going to get fit.  I was going to get back to healthy eating and i joined Fixed on Fitness ~ an outdoor bootcamp program.

I'm now in my 3rd session of bootcamp.  I get my rear end kicked 4 nights a week by my awesome trainer.  I've made some amazing friends.  I've struggled, i've cried, i've iced more muscles and gone thru more BioFreeze than i ever thought possible.  But also?  I've done things i never thought i could.  I've lost inches, body fat, weight.  I've gained priceless bonds with special friends.  I went from doing NOTHING to running 5 miles in 9 weeks.  And this weekend?  I'm running 8 miles.  I've never even considered that a possibility for me until now!

I've got a long way to go.  But every time i fight the excuses and i make the right choice with my nutrition, every time i get in my car and drive to my workout when everything in me is screaming not to, every time i make those choices??  I am getting stronger.  I am getting healthier.  And i am getting closer and closer to being back to the best me that i can be and that feels amazing!

There are a few different things that i am participating in to help keep me focused and motivated this year.  One of them is the #43milesinJanuary challege on instagram ~ i'm @sassyaubs on there if you want to follow along!  And i'll be sharing about a couple of others soon!

I'm excited to share this journey with all of you!

The fear of the Lord leads to life:  Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
~Proverbs 19:23~

Menu Monday!

Our lives get a little crazier this week with the start of basketball for the big boys, which means the crockpot and I?  We'll be besties for a couple of months!!  (which isn't a bad thing at all!  i wish i could kiss the person that came up with the crockpot!)  I will be using it atleast 2 nights a week when the boys have practice & i have bootcamp!  The madness for the Miculka's this week will be fueled by....
Monday ~ Crockpot Brown Sugar Chicken w/ Rice & Broccoli
Tuesday ~ Chili & Cornbread
Thursday ~ Bisquick Chicken Parm over Pasta w/ Salad
Friday ~ I'm hosting a Pampered Chef Party where my friend & consultant will be making a Jamaican Jerk Chicken Salad and i will serve some snacks (haven't decided what yet!)
*the boys in this house will most likely be eating at some chinese restaurant that i wouldn't even dream of stepping into....* ;)
Saturday ~ Grilled Teryiaki Burgers w/ Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Sunday ~ Skillet Sausage w/ Couscous & Broccoli
Hope you've all enjoyed a fabulous weekend and that your week is full of fun & good food!
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.
~Psalm 9:10~

What a week!

Whew!  Its been quite a week here in the Miculka home!  I've been busy busy trying to get myself and the whole family settled back into routines (which are changing around here) and planning for the next few months!  And we've had a sick baby boy which is just never fun....=(

Here's a quick peek at a little of what's been going on....

little man in the bath at about midnight last night to try to get his fever down ~ tylenol & motrin just weren't quite doing the job. =(

I may be sleep deprived & a little delirious from exhaustion at this point but i'm so so blessed to have my sweet little family to care for!  And i'm thankful that i am able to work out & change my eating habits so that i can get back to being the best ME that i can be!!  I'm excited to share a little more about my fitness journey here soon but for now i need to check a few things off of my to-do list while littlest is sleeping!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Can you fathom the mysteries of God?  Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?  They are higher than the heavens-what can you do?  They are deeper than the depths of the grave-what can you know?  Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

Happy New Year!!

Typically, we don't do much for New Years Eve.  We will usually watch the ball drop in nyc on tv at 11pm and then head to bed!  But this year, we decided to host a little party at our house!!  The big boys were really excited which just makes it that much more fun!!  We made s'mores, did some small fireworks, the kiddos had a silly string fight and we enjoyed a fun evening with good friends!
(i was having so much fun that i kinda forgot to take many pics...oops!)

NYE mantle!

food table ~ it filled very quickly with lots of yummy's!!

kiddos enjoying the fire!

silly string war! =)
I'm not much of a resolution kind of girl.  But this time of year does always lead me to spend some time reflecting ~ the successes, the trials, the triumphs of the year past.  This year i am choosing one word to focus on in every area of my life.  Joy.  I want my home to be filled with Joy.  I want to choose Joy each day regardless of my circumstances. I want to grow closer to my Savior ~ to be a little more like Him when 2013 comes to a close.
Praying a happy, healthy, love & joy filled 2013 for each of you!!

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
